Pinpoint Software Chooses Pulumi for Cloud Native Engineering

Pulumi’s industry-leading Kubernetes support gaining strong customer momentum

SEATTLE -- August 17, 2020 -- Cloud engineering leader Pulumi today announced that Pinpoint Software® has chosen Pulumi to simplify and accelerate production Kubernetes deployments. The company shared their experiences on the Pulumi blog, describing how their teams use Pulumi to operate the Pinpoint Engineering Performance Management platform. Today, hundreds of enterprises are using Pulumi as the core of their Kubernetes-enabled cloud engineering strategies.

Pinpoint improves the process of making software by enhancing the operations of engineering teams. Pinpoint contextualizes, analyzes and forecasts work across existing tools so engineers can do more of what they love – build great products. By providing teams with a unified way to view and simplify their work, Pinpoint increases productivity and speeds up innovation.

“We're really loving how easy it is to add node groups to our cluster as well as manage secrets, third-3rd party services and tools while also taking a lot of the configuration drift out of the equation,” said Andrew Kunzel, Director of Backend Engineering at Pinpoint. “We can’t wait to start using Pulumi’s new Kubernetes superpowers, like the new Kubernetes Operator, to further automate our infrastructure. Also, Kustomize support has been a huge win for us. Our data science backend uses Kustomize exclusively and this will allow us to roll that into our Pulumi managed Infrastructure.”

Pinpoint was able to improve productivity by using Pulumi and modern programming languages to declaratively:

  • Manage node groups (spot and on-demand)
  • Deploy with Kustomize and Helm
  • Manage third-party Kubernetes tooling
  • Recover quickly in the case of a disaster

Today’s news follows last week’s announcement that highlighted production deployments at Snowflake, Mercedes-Benz and Lemonade. It also introduced a host of new Kubernetes capabilities for deployment automation, including a new Pulumi Kubernetes Operator; integrations with Kustomize, Open Policy Agent (OPA) and Helm; support for strongly-typed Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) and new utilities for adopting and exporting YAML.

“We’re seeing companies of all sizes and industries standardizing on cloud native architectures to build sophisticated, multi-cloud, multi-region applications,” said Joe Duffy, Pulumi’s CEO. “We’re excited to see leading-edge developer tools companies, like Pinpoint, adopt Pulumi as their platform of choice for cloud engineering.”
